Television:R2-D2 Takes Center Stage in All-New Episode of STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS

    Downfall-1

In “Downfall of a Droid,” an all-new episode of the hit animated series STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS, premiering at 9 p.m. ET/PT Friday, Nov. 7, on Cartoon Network, R2-D2 is lost during a fierce space battle and Anakin must find him before the Separatists discover the Jedi military secrets locked in the droid's memory banks.

Directed by Rob Coleman and written by George Krstic, “Downfall of a Droid” is the first episode to feature the beloved astromech droid who has been with the Star Wars Franchise since the very beginning, first appearing the 1977 release of Star Wars: A New Hope. Krstic, the creator of Cartoon Network’s “Megas XLR,” says that R2-D2 is his favorite STAR WARS character.

“Artoo is very childlike and inquisitive, there’s no subterfuge to Artoo,” Krstic says. “He’s got loyalty and bravery and, while he doesn’t speak English, I think everyone understands what he’s saying. The wonderful sound design work and the incredible characterizations for Artoo have made it so that it doesn’t matter what language you speak, or where you’re from -- you can relate to Artoo and what he’s about.”

A native of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and current resident of Los Angeles, George Krstic has written three episodes for STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS and says his ultimate “nerd moment” came when he discovered there would be merchandising on some of the characters he’s worked on for the series.

“A few of the characters I wrote for on the series are being made into action figures and, as a fan, that’s pretty much the pinnacle of my career,” Krstic said with a laugh. “I can die happy now because it’s not going to get better.”

Dave Filoni is the supervising director of STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS. George Lucas is executive producer and creator of the series, and Catherine Winder is producer.

But tonight, after years of peace, something from Harmony's dark past has returned. Wearing a miner's mask and armed with a pickaxe, an unstoppable killer is on the loose. Television: Supernatural Behind the Scenes- Todd Stashwick Talks Episode 4.05 Monster Movie

    toddtw0

On Thursday October 30th at 9PM EST the hit Warner Bros/CW Network series Supernatural will air it’s Halloween episode, titled ‘It’s the Great Pumpkin, Sam Winchester’. As the Winchester’s say, every day is Halloween for them when it comes to dealing with all manner of beasties, demons, ghouls and witches. Plus this season there is even an angel or two thrown in for good measure. Those Winchester boys sure have their work cut out for them!

In this spooktacular frightfest, which was written by Julie Siege and directed by Charles Beeson, Sam and Dean Winchester (Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles): the two monster hunting, demon fighting brothers will be facing off against every type of horrific creature they have every encountered as they investigate some strange Halloween-related deaths that are taking place in a town during the days leading up to the holiday itself. As they begin to solve the mystery, they also learn the real origins of Halloween and find themselves trying to save the entire town itself from a surprising pair of would-be assassins. The episode also guest stars Misha Collins (“24”) as ‘Castiel’ and introduces Robert Wisdom (“The Wire”) as ‘Uriel.’

While fans and viewers of Supernatural are waiting on the edge of their seats for this next episode to air, Eclipse Magazine.com has a real Halloween treat in store for it’s readers as we catch up and ‘go behind the scenes’ with Todd Stashwick, the handsome and talented actor who portrayed the shape shifter with the penchant for impersonating classic movie monsters in the Supernatural episode Monster Movie, which was filmed in retro black and white to pay homage to those classic horror movies of yesteryear.

Todd Stashwick, who describes himself as ‘quite the sci-fi horror geek’, is no stranger to appearing in these types of roles in his career having played all manner of beasties and ghouls before coming to Supernatural to play the shape shifter. The versatile actor has been in such notable scifi/horror series as Angel, Dark Angel, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Enterprise along with a slew of other guest appearances on more mainstream hit series such as Monk, The Riches and The War at Home.

The first thing I learned about Todd Stashwick when I asked him if he was familiar with Supernatural before getting the role as the shape shifter was that he had a prior work connection to Jared Padalecki who plays Sam Winchester.

    toddjared

“Oddly Supernatural was off my radar. I'm quite the sci-fi horror geek but I missed it. I knew it was out there and that Jared was on it, he and I had done a pilot together 7 years ago, so when I saw his mug on huge posters around town I was like "Good for him!" I have since dived into season 1 on DVD and have to say I love it.”

Another new convert to the awesomeness of Supernatural. That’s always a good thing to learn about.

Todd also tells us that it was more than the chance to work with Jared again that drew him to take on the role of the monster movie loving shape shifter. It was the character itself and how the role was going to be presented that fascinated him, as he just like the character, is a long time fan of the classic horror monsters the role was based on.

“How often do you get a chance to recreate such an iconographic performance? We rarely get to play that broad on TV. That style of acting is outdated but quite fun.” It was also the very human side of this character that intrigued him as an actor as well. “Combine that with the emotional admission toward the end of the episode, which made for a complicated monster.”

In this reporter’s opinion, Todd Stashwick did an amazing job of bringing his character to life, especially in the persona of Dracula. The attention to detail in the accent, body language and hand gestures all harkened back to the early days of Bela Lugosi’s riveting work in the role. So I asked Todd if he had studied the old movies for inspiration or was the material for this provided in the script or by the director Robert Singer?

Being both the dedicated actor and fan of the old horror classics that he is, the actor revealed that when he booked the role on Supernatural in the episode Monster Movie, he bought the 75th anniversary edition of Todd Browning's Dracula with Lugosi on his own for reference and inspiration.

“This shape shifter wanted to BE Lugosi's Dracula,” Stashwick explains his take on the character’s motivation. “So I broke down what Bela (Lugosi) did technically. How he moved and spoke depending on whom he was talking to.”

    toddbela

Todd tells me that in order to keep himself on track with his source of inspiration, that he kept the DVD on his laptop in his trailer and watched it in between takes. “It was fascinating for me to study the ACTUAL performance versus the parody it has become through the years, I didn't want to do Sesame Streets "The Count" I wanted to be so loyal to Lugosi that when the gave me my fangs I raised the issue that Bela never had fangs in the original. I lost that argument.”

So what was the most challenging thing about this role on Supernatural and his decision to stay as true to the Lugosi version of Dracula as possible?

“Making sure my accent was consistent. Also staying sympathetic and grounded while still being over the top. I gained a great respect for Lugosi, how clean and stylized his acting was,” Stashwick says of living up to this challenge.

So what was the most fun? “Please, I'm Dracula, it was all fun,” he says laughing.

As to the Mummy and Werewolf versions, those, he explains were played by stunt performers so he really didn’t have to do any research on them.

Speaking of stunt work, I pointed out that his character had quite a few scenes where he mixed it up in fight scenes with the Winchester brothers, especially Dean. How much was stunt work and how much did Todd as the actor actually get to mix it up in the two lead actors?

Apparently all three actor’s, were quite involved in the ‘hands on’ approach to these scenes.

“I did all my own fights with the guys. The stunt guy did the leap over the fence.”

Todd Stashwick considers working with Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles on Monster Movie to have been a special treat for him as an actor. “I had a great deal of fun on this project. The guys are hilarious, a lot of laughing. At one point I had Jensen (Ackles) in a choke hold against a wall, fangs in place and we both just busted up at the fact that here we are both grown men and this is how we are spending our evening.”

    jentodd

Knowing that the two leads are notoriously known for pranking people I asked Todd if he had ended up on the receiving end of any pranks by them or by others on the set?

“Can't kid a kidder,” he responded cryptically.

So I wonder does this mean that Jared and Jensen may have met their match? Since Mr. Stashwick didn’t elaborate, I guess this will remain one of life’s little mysteries in the Supernatural lore.

What Todd was willing to elaborate on was upcoming projects that fans/viewers can see this highly talented actor in.

“I'll be on Ghost Whisperer in November. I just shot an episode of Sarah Conner Chronicles. I got to play a terminator and that was very cool. I'm currently shooting an episode of The Mentalist. Also Surfer Dude comes out on DVD in December, beyond that who knows.”

While we are looking forward to seeing more of the talented Todd Stashwick in his upcoming projects, Supernatural viewers can tune into the CW Network this Thursday at 9PM EST to catch the new episode of Supernatural season 4, It's the Great Pumpkin, Sam Winchester.

MGM OPTIONS 'THE MANY WORLDS OF JONAS MOORE' FOR SERIES TELEVISION DEVELOPMENT

    Jonas Moore

LOS ANGELES, CA August 19, 2008 -- Seizing an opportunity to leverage the current wave of popularity and notoriety surrounding the new digital graphic novel sensation, THE MANY WORLDS OF JONAS MOORE, MGM Domestic Television Distribution has acquired an option to develop the Factory Publishing property as a possible television series. The announcement was made today by Chris Ottinger, Executive Vice President, Worldwide Television, MGM.

"THE MANY WORLDS OF JONAS MOORE is an exciting digital graphic novel that's creating quite a sensation abroad," said Ottinger in announcing MGM's option of the property. "We see this as a great concept that will make an exciting series for worldwide audiences.”

"MGM is a great place for THE MANY WORLDS OF JONAS MOORE," said Howard Webster, creator, producer and director of the project for Factory Publishing in association with Triumph Motorcycles. "There has never been a black British action hero before and what appealed to me was that MGM understood this from the outset. JONAS MOORE is sophisticated, educated, tough and uber-cool.  He represents the next generation of intelligent action heroes of international sci-fi drama."

THE MANY WORLDS OF JONAS MOORE was written, produced and directed by Howard Webster. Ruth Vitale of The Film Collective brought the project to MGM. She was instrumental in developing the television pitch with Webster.  She is attached as an Executive Producer to the project, having worked with Webster for the last four years on Factory Magazine.

Nominated at MIPCOM 2007's Mobile and Internet TV Awards in the Best Short Form Mobile and Internet Drama category and an official honoree at this year's Webby Awards, THE MANY WORLDS OF JONAS MOORE is a trilogy of second-generation graphic novels, which live online and are specifically designed for iPod and PC download.

THE MANY WORLDS OF JONAS MOORE is set in a time where the British Empire has never ended and America is just one of thousands of virtual worlds hosted on a vast global game network.  When Jonas Moore (portrayed online by British film and TV star Colin Salmon -- Resident Evil, Die Another Day, Prime Suspect and the upcoming Punisher: War Zone, and Blood: The Last Vampire), a character personally created by the network's founder, becomes self-aware he is tagged by the network as a virus and goes on the run.   As he moves from one artificial game world to the next, his knowledge of the games and the real-world gamers spreads like a virus to the other game characters, freaks, creatures and monsters who live as slaves within the network - precipitating a revolution and fight for freedom against the murderously addicted real-world gamers.  Worlds Apart lead singer Steve Hart wrote the score for the production and also stars in the online version.

Combining comic book illustration with 3D animation, live action photography, newsreel archival footage, and an original music score, THE MANY WORLDS OF JONAS MOORE marks a revolution in online branded entertainment and user-generated content. Pushing the boundaries of the graphic novel genre, THE MANY WORLDS OF JONAS MOORE engages fans by inviting them to become part of the journey by downloading the JONAS MOORE digital elements and animating their own stories or creating comic book adventures for JONAS MOORE. Garage bands and musicians all over the world are also invited to strip out the music and send in their own soundtracks. The best fan-generated comic books, animations and soundtracks will be posted at www.jonasmoore.com when the online digital comic book series goes live later this year.

Previews for THE MANY WORLDS OF JONAS MOORE digital graphic novel can be seen at www.jonasmoore.com and www.factory-publishing.com.

The episode is now the highest-rated and most-watched episode of any SCI FI original series since the Eureka series premiere on July 18, 2006. In total viewers, it ranks as the 4th most-watched episode of any SCI FI original series ever.

Eureka, a series about a small town of geniuses and the havoc their top-secret work often wreaks, takes a shocking turn in this week with the demise of one of the show's leading characters. The arrival of Allison (Richardson) and Nathan's (Ed Quinn) wedding day coincides with an apparent loop in time, and Sheriff Jack Carter (Ferguson) is baffled that he — and only he — is reliving Allison's wedding day over an over again. Carter also gets an unexpected extended visit from his free-spirited sister Lexi (guest star Ever Carradine). By episode's end, one of Eureka's heroes will fall.

Eureka also stars Jordan Hinson as Zoe Carter, Erica Cerra as Deputy Jo Lupo, and Neil Grayston as Douglas Fargo. Co-creator Jaime Paglia and Charlie Craig (The X Files, Brimstone) are Executive Producers and Thania St. John and Bruce Miller are Co-Executive Producers. Eureka is produced by the Universal Cable Productions.

NBC ANNOUNCES COURTNEY B. VANCE WILL JOIN REAL-LIFE WIFE ANGELA BASSETT ON 'ER' FOR MULTI -EPISODE STORY ARC DURING 15TH AND FINAL SEASON

    NUP_110520_0949

BURBANK, Calif. – August 18, 2008 - NBC announced that Courtney B. Vance will join NBC's long running show "ER" (Thursdays, 10-11 p.m. ET/PT) in multi-episode story arc during season 15. Vance will be playing the role of Russell Banfield, husband to Cate Banfield played by real-life wife, Angela Bassett. "ER" will mark the first time Vance and Bassett will be acting together.
"We are excited to see the on-screen chemistry and emotion this incredibly talented husband and wife team will bring to our show," said executive producer David Zabel. "Fans are in for a treat and we couldn't be more thrilled that they chose ER to make their first appearance together."
Vance is perhaps best known for his five-year run on NBC's drama "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" and was nominated for the NAACP Image Award (Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series), for his role as New York Assistant District Attorney Ron Carver. Vance's talents also translate well to the big screen and are apparent in his roles in films such as Clint Eastwood's "Space Cowboys," Penny Marshall's "The Preacher's Wife" opposite Whitney Houston and Denzel Washington, John McTiernan's "The Hunt for Red October" and the big budget thriller "D-Tox." He was also seen in Robert Altman's small town mystery, "Cookie's Fortune," as well as "Huckleberry Finn." Vance's other feature film work includes "Hamburger Hill;" "Love and Action in Chicago," which he also co-produced; "The Last Supper," his critically-acclaimed portrayal of Bobby Seale in Gramercy Pictures "Panther;" and opposite Forest Whitaker in Tim Story's "Patriots."
On the small screen, Vance starred in the Emmy-nominated production of "The Boys Next Door," as well as the Emmy-nominated television movie, "The Tuskegee Airmen" opposite Laurence Fishburne and Andre Braugher. He starred alongside Charles S. Dutton in the feature "Blind Faith," for which he received an Independent Spirit Award nomination as Best Actor. He also appeared in the production of "12 Angry Men" alongside Jack Lemmon and George C. Scott; the television movie "Ambushed;" "The Naked City;" "Whitewash;" "The Clarence Brandley Story" as Clarence Brandley; and "Percy & Thunder" alongside James Earl Jones. Vance also received recognition for his starring role in the television movie, "The Affair," in the form of a Cable Ace Award nomination for Best Actor -- and also his brilliant performance in the Emmy-nominated production of August Wilson's "The Piano Lesson."
Most recently, Vance and wife Angela Bassett completed their first book, Friends: A Love Story that chronicles their story about healthy relationships, love and family.
NBC renewed "ER" for a 15th and final season in April. Combining the extraordinary talents of multiple award-winning producer John Wells ("The West Wing" "Third Watch"), best-selling author Michael Crichton ("Jurassic Park") and the creative team at Steven Spielberg's Amblin Television, the venerated series "ER" explores the inner workings of an urban teaching hospital and the critical issues faced by the dedicated physicians and staff of its overburdened emergency room. Currently beginning its 15th season, the highly acclaimed drama series now holds the distinction of being recognized as the most Emmy®-nominated series in the history of television with 122 nominations. Crichton and Wells serve as executive producers, along with Christopher Chulack, David Zabel, Joe Sachs and Janine Sherman Barrois.
A winner of the prestigious George Foster Peabody Award, the series has also earned 22 Emmy® Awards, including Outstanding Drama Series in 1996, among many accolades. In addition, the cast has been honored with four Screen Actors Guild Awards for Outstanding Ensemble Performance in a Drama Series.
The long-running series stars Maura Tierney ("Diggers," "Welcome to Mooseport,"), Mekhi Phifer ("Dawn of the Dead," "Curb Your Enthusiasm," "8 Mile," "Slow Burn"), Parminder Nagra ("Ella Enchanted," "Bend It Like Beckham"), Linda Cardellini ("Brokeback Mountain, "Scooby-Doo" films, "Grandma's Boy," "Freaks and Geeks"), Scott Grimes ("Band of Brothers," "American Dad," "Party of Five," "Mystery, Alaska"), John Stamos ("A Raisin in the Sun," "Jake in Progress") and David Lyons ("Blue Heelers").
On staff at County General Hospital are Abby Lockhart (Tierney), a recovering alcoholic trying her best to juggle a demanding residency and motherhood while everything around her seems to be falling apart; Dr. Greg Pratt (Phifer), an attending fighting for the chief spot on the floor as well as for a firm grasp on his love life; Neela Rasgotra (Nagra), a skilled surgical resident committed to growing in her craft as well as in her place on the surgical team; Sam Taggart (Cardellini), a spirited ER nurse who is finally getting some time to explore life and love both in and outside the hospital; Dr. Archie Morris (Grimes), the quirky-yet-talented attending dedicated to his work but constantly distracted by his own world; Tony Gates (Stamos), a paramedic-turned-doctor who has overcome numerous obstacles to take on the rigorous challenges of life in the ER and Dr. Simon Brenner (Lyons) the newest attending physician with a penchant for stirring things up.
"ER" is a production of Constant c Productions and Amblin Television in association with Warner Bros. Television.

Supernatural 4.01 Promo Pictures: A Closer Look

Yes, these photos for the Supernatural Season 4 episode Lazarus Rising have been around for a few days. I actually got them when they first came out, but didn't have anywhere to post them because of server issues with Eclipsemagazine.com that prevented me from posting them. That prompted me to create a place of my own.

Since these have been out for a few days now, I figured I needed a little bit of 'hook' to have a reason to post them as well. So I went looking for one and found it. I decided to enhance the photos so that we could take a closer look at them and see what might be intriguing about them, well besides the hotness that is Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles who star as Sam and Dean Winchester.

I brought the this image up to a lighter setting and noticed some very interesting things in the background of psychic Pamela Barnes' (played by Traci Dinwidde) digs:

    3spn4-01

Notice the really cool painting in the background and the art, including the golden Chinese mask of Budda. This lady is very interesting!

Next we have two photos of the séance going on where Dean, Sam, Bobby Singer (played by Jim Beaver) and Pamela are making contact with someone or something on the supernatural side:

    5spn04-01

Once again I did some lightening of the photo and some things I found really intriguing showed up. In the picture above notice that the candle flames seem to come together to form an image of something that, at least to me, resembles a hellhound. Check it out see what you think.

In the photo below, once it was lightened I was really fascinated by what seems to be appearing on Dean's exposed bare shoulder and his neck (and I don't just mean the lovely freckled skin). Whether it is a trick of the light or a flaw in the photo, but it looks like there is an 'entity' hovering almost on top of him. Did Dean Winchester bring something back from hell with him or is that something else

    7spn4-01

The below photo is still driving me crazy even though I lightened it and toned down some of the color saturation in it. Is it Sam or Dean? Or is it some random guy who just couldn't take the suspense anymore of waiting on season 4 of Supernatural to begin!

    1spn4-01

On to the next photo. Hmm..scorch marks on the floor next to woman in a waitress outfit lying apparently lifeless while Sam Winchester crouches over her. Well either something decidedly demonic was afoot or the waitress just keeled over in the sheer shock of seeing Sam Winchester actually eat something (see next photo).

    11spn4-01

You know there is going to be lots of surprises going on in a Supernatural episode when you see Sam Winchester actually eating something. (ok maybe I'm just exaggerating a bit about that..or maybe not).

    12spn4-01

At first I lightened up the below photo for just for the pleasure of seeing the lovely bare shoulder more clearly. But low and behold something else was made apparent. That there is such a thing as continuity with Supernatural. Notice the 'bullet wound scar' on Dean's shoulder right next to Pamela's thumb. Someone was paying attention to what is expected to be seen when you show the audience that section of Dean's bare skin. Good Job!

    6spn4-01

Ok so there is nothing intriguing to be revealed in the next photo after lightening it unless you include getting to see Dean's injured knuckles more clearly. I just wanted to post it because it has me happily singing 'I'm Back in Baby's Arms' as we see Dean back in the driver's seat of his beloved '67 Chevy Impala 'baby' once more!

    2spn4-01

Ok that's it, that was my hook. If you came to look at these, then I thank you kindly for visiting my new site:)
